Dear Parents,

To ensure a fair and consistent evaluation process for student belt tests, we kindly request your attention to the following requirements and timeframes:

**Requirements:**

Tip Earning: To ensure readiness for the next belt level, students are expected to earn all designated tips/strips associated with their current belt level. These tips signify the acquisition of essential skills and knowledge necessary for progression. For any unclear or additional information regarding their belt test, students can refer to the curriculum page, which provides comprehensive details and guidance.

What is Tip/Strip?
Tips serve as milestones and indicators of a student’s preparation and mastery of specific skills and indications of how ready they are for the upcoming belt test.

Tips are colored strips, either black or red, that appear on a student’s current belt. Black tips signify a passing grade, representing a normal to excellent level of achievement. In contrast, red tips indicate that a student’s performance has surpassed the expected standards, demonstrating exceptional proficiency. Students who earn a red tip for a specific number do not require retesting for that particular tip at the belt test. We encourage our red-tip earners to participate in our leadership program to ensure they provide other students with the same exceptional teaching experience as our assistant instructors.

Belt Testing Time Requirements:

To ensure a structured and progressive martial arts journey, we have established the following timeframes between belt levels:

No-Belt to White Belt: Students should dedicate a minimum of 1-2 months to the No-Belt level before becoming eligible for promotion to White Belt. A total of 4 tips/strips are required to advance to the White Belt from the No-Belt level.

White Belt to Yellow Belt: The expected timeframe for advancing from White Belt to Yellow Belt is 2-3 months. An additional tip/strip is required for promotion to Yellow Belt, making a total of 5 tips for Yellow Belt.

Yellow Belt to Orange Belt: To prepare for promotion to Orange Belt, students are encouraged to spend 3-4 months at the Yellow Belt level. An extra tip is necessary for promotion to Orange Belt, totaling 6 tips for Orange Belt.

Orange Belt to Green Belt: A minimum of 4-5 months of training is essential for a smooth transition from Orange Belt to Green Belt. An additional tip is required for promotion to Green Belt, totaling 6 tips for Green Belt.

Green Belt to Blue Belt: Students are advised to invest 5-6 months at the Green Belt level to meet the criteria for Blue Belt promotion. An extra tip is necessary for promotion to Blue Belt, totaling 7 tips for Blue Belt.

Blue Belt to Purple Belt: Progressing from Blue Belt to Purple Belt typically encompasses a period of 6-7 months. An extra tip is required for promotion to Purple Belt, totaling 8 tips for Purple Belt.

Purple Belt to Brown Belt: A dedicated training period of 7-8 months is necessary for the transition from Purple Belt to Brown Belt. An additional tip is required for promotion to Brown Belt, totaling 9 tips for Brown Belt.

Brown Belt to Red Belt: Students are expected to dedicate 7-8 months at the Brown Belt level before becoming eligible for promotion to Red Belt. An extra tip is necessary for promotion to Red Belt, totaling 10 tips for Red Belt.

Red Belt to Dan/Bo Belt: The timeframe for advancing from Red Belt to Dan/Bo Belt is estimated to be 9-11 months. An extra tip is required for promotion to Dan/Bo Belt, totaling 11 tips for Dan/Bo Belt.

Dan/Bo to Black Belt: Finally, students are required to commit to a minimum of 10-12 months of intensive training to achieve the prestigious Black Belt. An extra tip is necessary for promotion to Black Belt, totaling 12 tips/strips for Black Belt.

These time requirements, along with the specified number of tips, are designed to ensure students’ readiness and proficiency at each belt level, promoting a comprehensive martial arts experience.

Additionally, to determine if your child is ready for the belt test, you can follow the below steps:

1. Consult with your child’s instructor: Discuss their progress, skills, and readiness for the belt test. Instructors are well-equipped to provide insights and guidance based on your child’s performance in class. Instructors will also notify you if your child is ready for the belt test.

2. Check the Number of Tips: Inquire with your child about the number of tips they have earned.

For your convenience, we have created a page on our website called “Test List,” which includes the students who are ready to take their next belt test. Once you’ve received confirmation from the instructor that your child is ready for the belt test, you can proceed to register your child and pay the test fee.
