Information About Belt Testing

Wilde Lake Karate & Learning Center

At Wilde Lake Karate & Learning Center, our belt testing system is designed to ensure that students grow not only in martial arts techniques but also in confidence, discipline, leadership, respect, and character.

To maintain a fair, consistent, and meaningful evaluation process, students must meet specific training, attendance, and skill requirements before being invited to participate in belt testing.

Belt Test Requirements

• Earn All Required Tips/Stripes

Students are expected to earn all required tips/stripes associated with their current belt level before becoming eligible for testing. These tips represent the student’s progress, effort, technical understanding, focus, and readiness for advancement.

• Parent Permission

Parents play an important role in supporting their child’s martial arts journey. Parent approval and involvement are required before testing.

• Instructor Recommendation

Instructors carefully evaluate each student’s attitude, attendance, effort, behavior, focus, and technical performance before recommending them for promotion.

• Master Approval

Final approval for belt testing is given by Master Kevin based on overall readiness and consistency.

What Are Tips/Stripes?

Tips (also called stripes) are colored strips placed on a student’s current belt. They serve as milestones that help students track their progress and readiness for the next belt level.

Black Tips

Black tips represent successful understanding and satisfactory performance of required material.

Red Tips

Red tips represent exceptional performance and mastery beyond expectations. Students who receive red tips may not need to retest that specific requirement during belt testing.

Students who consistently earn red tips may also be invited to participate in leadership opportunities and assistant instructor development.
